About This Programme
Managed by the British Council, IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, a good IELTS score is an indicator to both employers and academic institutions of proficiency in English. The Preparatory Course for IELTS at London School of Business & Finance in Singapore will develop students’ level of English to a standard recognised by universities across the world. Students must achieve an appropriate score on an IELTS examination to study an undergraduate or postgraduate course in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and numerous other English-speaking countries.
London School of Business & Finance has an excellent track record in IELTS preparation and is recognised by the British Council as an IELTS Registration Partner. This enables LSBF to register students for IELTS tests on their behalf. Students registered with the British Council gain access to IELTS Ready Premium, an online portal which offers personalised resources for IELTS test takers including practice tests, feedback on every reading/listening question, personalised study plans, and more.

IELTS Speaking
At the end of this module, students are expected to be able to:
• Use interaction skills in an interview situation
• Use appropriate para-linguistic skills such as body language and eye contact
• Produce cohesive, coherent and grammatically correct speech
• Use appropriate vocabulary, pronunciation, intonation, word and sentence stress.
IELTS Listening
At the end of this module, students are expected to be able to:
• Listen to a conversation / short talk
• Identify key information from a table/chart/map
• Complete a timetable/calendar of events
• Social needs
• Label a diagram
• Complete short answer/multiple choice/true false questions.
IELTS Reading
At the end of this module, students are expected to be able to:
• Survey, skim and scan a reading text to answer the following types of questions: Multiple choice, short answer, sentence completion, notes/summary/ diagram/
• Flowchart/table completion, identify writers’ views, identify information,
• Classification, matching of lists and phrases.
• Understand and use a range of academic
• Deal with unknown vocabulary.
IELTS Writing
At the end of this module, students are expected to be able to:
• Cover the material as prescribed in IELTS Writing
• Acquire necessary proficiency to enter postsecondary education.

Programme Aims
At the end of the Preparatory Course for IELTS, students are expected to be able to apply the skills and strategies taught throughout the course to successfully complete the IELTS test which the student has to register externally.
Learning Outcomes

Reading: Reading efficiently, using appropriate and time-saving reading techniques

Assessment
On induction students are given a section from the reading, writing, speaking and listening from the IELTS exam. This will act as a benchmark and give guidance to students on areas for improvement.
At regular intervals, students are given full practice IELTS tests which will be fully graded and returned to the students for feedback.
Students will be required to keep a reflective journal and will be given work to complete outside of class. Students that are having difficulties making the expected progression will be reported in the logs and given supplemental material and additional support.

Who is this course for?
This course is recommended for students wanting to develop skills at high level in all areas of the English language and to learn strategies for achieving a high IELTS test score.
Entry Requirements
Minimum Age
16 years old
Placement Test
A placement test is administered at the Admissions Office upon the students’ arrival in Singapore. Students will be informed of the respective levels they qualify for within one day of the test.
Recommended Minimum Language Requirement
- IELTS >4,0 or
- an equivalent English Language qualification, or
- Completed LSBF Preparatory Course in English (PCE) intermediate level, or equivalent, or
- Achieved a satisfactory score on LSBF placement test
