The British High Commissioner to Singapore Opens LSBF’s New CBD Institute

On February 26th, The British High Commissioner to Singapore, His Excellency Mr Antony John Phillipson, together with Chief Executive and Founder of London School of Business & Finance (LSBF), Mr Aaron Etingen and Mr Rathakrishnan Govind, Managing Director of LSBF in Singapore, officiated the grand opening of its new institute at Springleaf Tower, right in the heart of Tanjong Pagar, Singapore’s Central Business District.
The business institute's new space spans over 12,000 square feet and is fitted with 11 classrooms that can hold about 300 students at a time. It has another premise located in GB Building in Cecil Street. Over 6,000 students have received their accounting and finance qualifications at LSBF since the business institute set up its Singapore branch over two years ago.
Mr Govind, Managing Director of the Singapore institute, said: “This grand opening is not just about moving from an old premise to a new one. It is a reflection of our success and celebration of what it to come for the growth of LSBF in Singapore and in the region. With this expansion, LSBF is committed to delivering the best of higher education from across the world and to become a professional education hub for students and adult learners in the business community.”
In June 2011, LSBF made its first foray into Singapore and was established by LSBF’s Royal Patron His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent. Since then, LSBF in Singapore has grown in size and reputation. Today, it has already taught more than 6,000 students pursuing qualifications in accounting and finance from the UK.
Professor Maurits Van Rooijen, CEO & Rector of LSBF, said: “The expansion of LSBF in Singapore reflects the vision of LSBF on the new realities of higher education. When it comes to professional higher education, we want to create a symbiotic relationship between theory and practice, between classroom and workplace, with experiential learning at the core of its curriculum.
“By being in the central business district, we are reaching out to employers in Singapore, inviting them to work closely with us in our Work-integrated Learning and Learning-integrated work commitments. This new venue will become a true educational hub in a professional environment, the corporate living room as well as study centre and in the future maybe even clinic, for Singapore's CBD, where study and work meet to boost personal and corporate economic success.”
Guest-of-Honour His Excellency Mr Antony Phillipson, British High Commissioner to Singapore congratulated LSBF on the development of its new institute. He noted the importance of the export of the UK Education, estimated at £17.5 billion in 2011, to the future prosperity of his country.
His Excellency Mr Phillipson said: “One of the eleven sectors at the heart of the British Government's Industrial Strategy, or Plan for Growth, is International Education Strategy. And Singapore has become a particular focus for this due to its high quality education partnerships and Singaporean’s own sense of ambition.”
His Excellency also concluded the ceremony by highlighting that Singapore is ranked 2nd in the world for UK Transnational Education (TNE) provision and commends private education providers like LSBF in Singapore for the success of delivering quality British education to Singapore.
