  • Delivered using predominately active learning activities with short presentations on key concepts
  • The learning activities may include role-plays, group discussions and case studies to allow learners to relate key learning points
  • The activities allow the facilitator to assess the progress of the learners during the course and introduce targeted or remedial knowledge and activities if necessary

Each participant will be presented an electronic certificate on completion of the course.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss the general accepted accounting practices and accounting cycle as well as budgeting control investment appraisal and risk management
  • Summarise how key financial statements, namely balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement are prepared and how they relate and impact each other
  • Calculate common ratios for analysing the financial strength of a company
  • Interpret and harness pertinent data and information from financial statements and reports in their decision making 
  • Discuss issues of short and long term financing, and working capital management

Course Outline

Roles of Finance and Accounting

 

This session provides participants with the foundation knowledge of finance and accounting including their functional role in the bank in the context of the subject.

Key Financial Reports / Financial Analysis

 

Participants will take a look at balance sheets, income statement and cash flow statement and their relations. Participants will also learn to identify key financial data and calculate common ratios for decision making and analysing the financial strength of a company. This session will include a review activity.

Financing and Working Capital

 

This provides an essential understanding of corporate finance structure, including knowledge of the instruments used by companies to raise finance to maximise corporate value

Best Practices in Budgeting Process

 

Participants will learn key budgeting process and the importance of aligning budgets to the company’s mission, vision and objectives. Participants will have the opportunity to build a simple budget.

Corporate Governance and Risk Management

 

 

This session will address corporate governance issues in reference to the workshop subject. Participants will learn how to identify, assess and control organisational risks and practice this in a case study. Specifically, participants will learn how to identify low and high risk companies respectively.
